Dear Scot – Nice to learn of your existence and to read your poems. Your name, not so common, leads me to ask whether you possibly had an ancestor named Ray C. Slaby who taught school more than 70 years ago in Door County, Wisconsin. He was my teacher, and the best one I ever had. I too am a poet and welcome you to the fraternity. All best wishes, – Jan Schreiber
Hi Jan! Thanks for reaching out! No relatives in Wisconsin (I hail from western Pennsylvania), but I had heard stories of Slabys in the Midwest. As fate would have it, some of my wife’s family moved to Minneapolis, so we try to spend as much time there as possible. Glad to know good teaching genes are circulating among the Slabys! Thank you for the welcome! Have we met before? Possibly at West Chester years ago? Looking forward to continued connections. All my best, Scot
